While there have been multiple occasions when we have heard about a Facebook Phone to be allegedly in works, the social networking giant has along with Taiwanese giant HTC, announced announced the launch of the HTC First smartphone which will go on to be the first device to run on the Facebook Home, which is basically like any other Android launcher which will bring your Facebook news-feed to your smartphone’s home-screen  Facebook describes the Home as ‘a combination of multiple social apps by the company, to make the Android phones more people-centric and not app-centric.’


The Facebook Home is set to be released in Google Play on April 12 and will be initially available for select smartphones which include the HTC One X, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy S III and the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Apart from these, the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One will be next in line to receive Facebook Home. Facebook has said that it will being the Home to all other Android smartphones running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and above in the coming months. If you use an Android tablet, you might have to wait a little longer given that Facebook is still working on the tablet version of the Facebook Home.


The features of Facebook Home include the Cover Feed, which is an image-centric version of Facebook’s news-feed on your lock-screen and home-screen  Next is the Chat Heads wherein Facebook has unified the messaging experience from Facebook Messenger and the SMS which arrive on your smartphone. Next is the Apps which will display all your favourite apps from your phone in the Facebook Home and you will be easily able to select the apps you wish to launch.

Facebook Home is just like any other Android launcher and users will easily be able to switch between the stock Android launcher as per their convenience. Catch the Facebook Home promo in the video below.
