We all know that it will not be long enough before we have smartphones with totally flexible displays making their way into the market and this has already begun with Samsung launching the Galaxy Round with a curved display and the LG G Flex, which according to the company is ‘World’s First Curved Flexing Smartphone’ going official a couple of months back. And now, the LG G Flex has been priced on the official LG website for a hefty price tag of Rs.69,990.
If you are wondering what does the smartphone pack in for that much of money, then you will get a 5 inch POLED (Plastic OLED) Curved display which is vertically concave from the top to bottom and has a radius of 700mm. That said, the resolution of the screen is just HD (1280 x 720) pixels and not full HD but it is powered by a powerful 2.26 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with Adreno 330 GPU which clocks at 450 MHz. The processor is coupled with 2 GB of RAM while the internal memory is pegged at 32 GB with no option to expand it using a microSD card slot.
The LG G Flex has a 13 megapixel camera on the back with LED Flash while there is a 2.1 megapixel camera on the front. The device runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS. The curved design of the LG G Flex goes on to reduce the distance between the user’s mouth to the microphone when the device is held against the ear and thus helping in increasing the voice quality level by 3 dB. LG feels that the design will also give users better grip and will slide well in the back pocket.
Like on the LG G2, the company has placed the physical button on the back panel and the back cover has self-healing technology since it is coated with a special material so that scratches can be removed within minutes. The G Flex arrives with a curved 3500 mAh battery. Connectivity wise, the LG G Flex rocks 2G, 3G, 4G LTE< Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS and 3.5mm audio jack. For a price of about 70 grand, LG is asking too much for a curved smartphone but then, the market itself is not that huge and the street price will for sure be lesser than Rs.69,999. We expect LG to make an official annoucement very soon.
