Since the day, Nokia has announced Microsoft as its primary OS platform for it smartphones, the entire attention towards Windows Phone 7 ecosystem is shifted to Nokia’s lineup of Windows Phones and has already putted other Windows Phone offerings from other makers aside, no matter whether it’s HTC or Samsung.

Last year, the first Nokia’s Windows Phone based devices were announced first one is Nokia Lumia 800 and the other one, Lumia 710 for budget conscious buyers. Well, till now most of the parts of the World has already tasted these Windows Phone offerings and people are loving the new flavor of Nokia. Until now, the Lumia 800 is the only high-end contender from Nokia’s end but recently at CES 2011 in Vegas, Nokia has officially unveiled its newest Windows Phone 7 based device, the Lumia 900 with a bigger display and few other enhancements. So here we’ve putted both of the devices side by side and compiled an end to end results.

Nokia Lumia 900

The Lumia 900 borrows the exact same design from its brand mate, the Lumia 800 and bears same unibody design made up of polycarbonate, a type of high quality fiber. However due to increase in display size the body of Lumia 900 is quiet bigger than Lumia 800.

Here you can notice, the Lumia 900 is a 0.6 slimmer than Lumia 800 but weights wee bit extra due to bigger size as well LTE ready chipset.


Type: Well, the Nokia says both of the display are of same type, that’s AMOLED ClearBlack but the underlying tech is different as, the Lumia 800 has a PenTile Matrix subpixel layout which, has its subpixels in an RGBG arrangement while, the Lumia 900 isn’t has PenTile matrix display and subpixels arrangement is in RGB format. Similarly the color depth of the 900 is 24 bits while, the 800 has 16 bit.

Size: The display size in Lumia 800 is 3.7-inch whereas, the 900 is blessed with a larger, 4.3-inch display.

Resolution: Regardless of the variation in their sizes both bears same 800 x 480 pixels of resolution but that’s due to the limitation of Windows Phone platform.
So overall, you can see in the display section Nokia 900 leads the 800.

Nokia Lumia 800


The operating system of both the devices are heavily same, the only noticeable difference added in the 900 that ir comes with a Windows Phone Mango build which is added with support for LTE while, the 800 is bundled with the previous Mango but as it’s not LTE capable, hence we can say the OS’s are same.


Chipset: The both of Nokia Lumia has same processing capabilities but the chipsets are different as the Lumia 800 is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset with a 1.4 GHz processor and Adreno 205 GPU but, the Lumia 900 is backed by a Qualcomm APQ8055 chipset which is also clocked at similar speed and has same GPU but, this one has been added with the LTE support.
Battery: Another place, where the 900 is a step ahead of the 800, as the Lumia 900 comes with an 1830 mAh battery on the other hand the 800 is bundled with a much lesser 1450 mAh battery.

Storage : Here both Lumia ties, as the both is added with a 16 GB of internal storage, 512 MB of RAM as well as both is blessed with 25GB of SkyDrive cloud storage with the courtesy of the Microsoft.

Camera : The both of Lumia comes with similar rear 8 Mega pixel Carl Ziess lens with f/2.2 aperture and dual LED flash, but the Lumia 900 is also added with a front facing 1.3 MP Camera for video calling abilities, something which is not available in Lumia 800.

Connectivity: In this section, Lumia 900 still leads with LTE capability and boasts up to 50 Mbps of theoretical download speeds while in 3G only areas it can achieve up to 21 Mbps download speeds. On the other hand the Lumia 800 is only 3G ready with maximum download speed of up to 14.4 Mbps.

NFC: Yes, the Nokia has now added Lumia 900 with its NFC love but the previous Lumia 800 isn’t NFC ready.

Miscellaneous: The Lumia 800 is blessed with a slew of sensors such as accelerometer, proximity, digital compass but along with these all the Lumia 900 is also added with a gyroscope sensor which, measures or maintains orientation of the device.

Price: Currently, the Nokia Lumia 800 is already available in the market for Rs 29,000 ($580). On the hand the Nokia Lumia 900 is just announced, so its official pricing is yet to be release but it’s speculated for Rs 34,000 ($680) approx.
