Sony Mobiles has been betting a lot on making its smartphones stand out from the crowd and thus launching waterproof and dust proof device like the Sony Xperia Z and the Sony Xperia ZR. And today, the company has announced the addition of another waterproof device to its existing list of smartphones called the Sony Xperia UL which has been announced in Japan, for now. The Sony Xperia UL has almost similar specifications as that of the Sony Xperia Z and includes a 5 inch full Reality display with Mobile Bravia Engine 2.

The smartphone is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ 8064 processor which is coupled with Adreno 320 GPU while 2 GB of RAM supports the functioning of the smartphone. There is 16 GB of internal storage on board the Sony Xperia UL which is further expandable up to 64 GB using a microSD card slot. The device has IPX5 and IPX8 ratings for water and dust resistance so this will save the smartphone from accidental liquid spills and you have have it near the pools too but We are not sure if the UL is capable of under-water photography like the Sony Xperia ZR or not.

The Sony Xperia UL runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS out-of-the-box and the device carries a 13 megapixel camera with LED Flash and BSI Exmor RS sensor so the image quality is expected to be good. The front facing camera is of VGA resolution which can be used for making video calls. The Sony Xperia UL includes connectivity options like the 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, MHL, WiFi 820.11, 3.5MM audio jack. a 2300 mAh battery powers the smartphone.

Japan’s operator KDDI will carry the Sony Xperia UL on its network and the smartphone will be available in White, Black and Pink colors from 25th May, 2013. While there is no word on pricing yet, there is no information if the Sony Xperia UL will be made available in the international market.
