Sony Mobiles is preparing itself to launch a 6.44 inch phablet called the Sony Xperia ZU or the Sony Xperia Z Ultra which will go on to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 which will launch sometime soon as the company has sent out invites for the launch scheduled for July 4th in in France. And today an image has leaked online which, if true, confirms the earlier rumour that the Sony Xperia ZU will be able to accpet inputs on the touchscreen from even a pencil leave alone the stylus.


Also, the smartphone goes on to look much similar to the Sony Xperia Z/ZR smartphones and will also be waterproof and dustproof as it packs IP65 and IP68 certifications enabling it to be used underwater up to 5 meters for a maximum of 30 minutes without sustaining any damage. Apart from the 6.4 inch full-HD display, the Sony Xperia ZU will will powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocking at 2.2 GHz and coupled with 2 GB of RAM while internal storage is expected to be of around 16 GB which will be expandable up to 64 GB.

With all these high-end internals, the rear camera on the Sony Xperia ZU is said to remain at 8 megapixels instead of the 13 megapixel sensor as on the Sony Xperia Z while the front camera will be of 1.3 megapixel resolution. The phablet will run on Andreoid 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS out-of-the-box and will have the usual connectivity options like Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi Miracast, NFC, MHL, AGPS, 3.5mm audio jack and others. The battery on-board is expected to be of 3000 mAh.

It will be interesting to see as to how Sony is able to bring out a product which is capable of accepting an input from pencil and similar things. For now, we are not much far away from the official unveiling of the Sony Xperia ZU and expect to have more leaks with each passing week.
