All high end mobile phones and tablets are coming equipped with blazing fast processors and high resolution displays. As a result they are becoming more power hungry. Unfortunately, battery technology is lagging behind; we need to charge devices quite frequently. To make the scenario worse, the majority of the mobile manufacturers are now opting non-removable battery. Now you simply cannot pop in a replacement battery when you don’t have a charger around. So what to do? Portable power banks can be really useful in these situations. Portable power banks have a built-in large capacity battery to conserve power and it can charge mobile phones and tablets directly.
Power banks are available in different capacities. Some power banks has 2,000 mAh capacity while some has 18,000 mAh. I‘m using Yoobao YB642 Long March High Capacity Power Bank since last couple of weeks. The most interesting thing about it is that the power bank has amazing 11,200 mAh capacity. You charge almost all kinds of mobile phones and tablets using the power bank. It can charge devices multiple times thanks to the huge internal battery. Samsung Galaxy SIII which has 2,100 mAh battery, can be charged more than 4 times and Apple iPhone 5 can be charged 7 times! Isn’t that great?
I was expecting a bulky device as the capacity is huge. But in reality Yoobao power bank is quite portable; you can easily carry it bags or even inside big pockets. The power bank comes with seven different types of adapters to charge almost all kinds of devices like Apple iPhone, iPad, Samsung phones, Nokia phone, Blackberry etc.
The Yoobao YB642 power bank uses glossy plastic. It feels good in hand and the white color helps to hide fingerprints and smudges. On top of the Yoobao power bank there is a single button which can be used to check battery charge status. The button doesn’t provide satisfactory feedback, I wish Yoobao could have used better quality buttons. Nevertheless it gets the job done.
There is a single LED flashlight on the front side. If you press and hold the top button for 2-3 seconds then the LED light will be turned on. The LED flash light is not very bright but can be useful in case of emergency. The front side of the power bank hosts three ports; two full size USB ports and a microUSB charging port. The dual USB ports can charge two devices simultaneously. They have different power output, 1A and 2A . One tablet and one cell phone can be charged from them. The micro USB port is used to charge the power bank using the bundled power adapter. It takes around 15 hours to fully charge the battery. It is understandable considering the huge 11,200 mAh capacity. Once the power bank is fully charged you are ready to recharge any mobile phone or tablet from it. I managed to fully charge Samsung Galaxy Note II which has 3,100 battery, three times using the Yoobao power bank. This is quite impressive.
